Access to Technology Resources

HARDWARE includes any computers, printers, scanners, projection equipment, white boards, etc. Please remember to think about including emerging technologies.

Items to potentially include are:

  • Goals should make provision for the acquisition, maintenance and replacement of technology related hardware. One of the items for consideration should be electrical capacity to support the hardware. Describe the services you most desire and the hardware needed to provide these services.
  • Please include an explanation for how the hardware supports the Local Educational Improvement Plan.
  • Include plans to accomplish the acquisition, maintenance and replacement of hardware. Include the expected funding sources (grants, local budget, etc.).
  • Data is collected annually by the NHDOE Office of Educational Technology. You should retain copies of all surveys submitted and refer to that data when completing this section. The following items are some of the components you want to be looking at:
    • Inventory of existing hardware with descriptions of modems, routers, switches, etc...
    • Inventory of electrical capacities.
    • Summary of in-house technical staff.
    • Summary of maintenance contracts.

CONNECTIVITY includes networks, as well as the digital and/or telephone connections out to the Internet.

Items to potentially include are:

  • Goals for connectivity including LANs and WANs, telephone lines (T1, ISDN, DSL, ATM, 56K), Internet Service providers, and distance learning. Describe the services you desire and the hardware needed to provide these services.
  • Explain how the connectivity supports the Local Education Improvement Plan.
  • Plans to accomplish the acquisition, maintenance and upgrading of connectivity including the expected funding sources (grants, local budget, E-Rate etc.)
  • Data is collected annually by the NHDOE Office of Educational Technology. You should retain copies of all surveys submitted and refer to that data when completing this section. The following items are some of the components you want to be looking at:
    • Inventory of existing LANs and WANs.
    • Inventory of existing telephone connections.
    • Inventory of ISP providers.
    • Summary of maintenance contracts.

Budget and Evaluation are separate sections of the technology plan. When formulating your action steps for Access to Technology Resources, you should be thinking about:

    • costs of hardware, software, and connectivity
    • your local budget
    • methods of evaluation.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS

Ed 306 Minimum Standards for Public School Approval:
