Workshop Notes – April 18, 2008 – Tech Planning Workshop at GMPDC

•        Indirect costs on DOE grants (Rates are negotiated each year by district and DOE, but district decides if they want to take indirect on any given grant. Their option.)

•        Policy development for Web 2.0

        Need to standardize processes

        Need to open the web

Have AUP with both the legal and layman’s language so we can understand it

What about kids getting thru proxies?

•        Talk to kids, identify and redirect their energies to positive technology tasks

        Policies need to be enforced

Need to educate more… evaluating websites, etc. (Why not YouTube?)

•        Invite local police to school to talk about Internet safety

•        NHSTE Tech Coordinators – Attorney General Ayotte was at recent meeting, she or her staff are available to come to school for a session on internet safety.

•        Open access wireless point near school – how to handle? Talk with the neighbor? Purchase expensive blocking system?

•        See www.opennh.org – currently developing “School Policies in 21st Century” course… expect to offer this in Summer 2008

•        What about blogging? Parents have to approve posting of their kids’ work. What guidelines do we need for this?

School board creates policies and tech staff creates the protocols to implement them.

Where are the guidelines, recommendations, tips to handle and stay within the policy?

What resource is there to help teachers learn how to create and maintain a blog?

•        How do we get more tech integration when we’re chasing the GLEs for testing and getting off the SINI and DINI list?
