Event Report: Educating 21C Learners
Filed Under General | Leave a Comment
Yesterday on April 1st, a great event occurred in Meredith, NH. (No fooling!) It was called “Educating the 21st Century Learner” and it was coordinated and sponsored by LESCN. The program was awesome with some great presenters and great discussions. I was on the program, too but I’m not talking about me. I’m talking about Peter Reynolds as morning keynote, a great panel discussion by students, administrators, teachers, tech coordinators and moderated by Scott Spradling (formerly of WMUR fame), and many more. Those in attendance are already raving about the event. I hear there is already another event in the planning stages! Check out the program. For those who were at the session about Web 2.0 tools with Bill Carozza and me, here is a link to the slides.
If you were there and want to post a comment for all the world to hear, just hit the “comment” button above.

What do you think should be essential or recommended features of a 21st century classroom? This question was posed to a group of educators at an event sponsored by NHSTE on 3/25/09 called “Essential Tools for 21st Century Teachers.” The discussion was part of a presentation about current (tentative) information about the federal stimulus funds that will be available soon for NH schools. The group was asked to vote on elements, indicating which items would be “nice to have” “should have” or “must have.”
You, too, can vote on this question and then see the results here.

What do you know about the 21st century, now that you’ve lived in it for a decade? What do you know about the differences between this century and the last one? What do you know about the critical skills and content knowledge that our education system needs to attend to in order to best prepare K-12 students for their future? I encourage you to take a moment to think about these questions and then visit Education Week for an important article about this: Backers of 21st Century Skills Take Flak
