MarcoPolo is a program of the Verizon Foundation

The Office of Educational Technology at the New Hampshire Department of Education, with the assistance of the Southwest Educational Support Center in Keene, is collaborating with the Verizon Foundation to assist teachers in finding information and lesson plans on the web.  MarcoPolo provides a train-the-trainer model of professional development and the resources necessary to successfully integrate Internet content into the classroom.

Content Aligned to NH Standards

Alignment of nearly 1,000 MarcoPolo lessons with NH Curriculum Standards took place in 2002. Visit the NHEON Frameworks area to locate lessons, or visit the powerful MarcoPolo Search Engine to search for new MP lessons aligned to national standards.

MP Training to Go Beyond the Lessons

The focus of a Marco Polo session is on the MarcoPolo web site, comprised of content provided by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the National Council on Economics Education, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the International Reading Association partnering with the National Council of Teachers of English, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the National Geographic Society. This educational portal has no advertising and is completely free.

Signing Up for MP Training

The MarcoPolo Program provides hands-on training sessions geared toward helping teachers use high quality Internet content in their classrooms. You can arrange for on-site training to best fit you and your school:

On-site face to face training:

  • led by one of New Hampshire's MarcoPolo Master Trainers, usually arranged for 10-20 participants, covered in one six hour session or split into two shorter sessions.
  • led by one of New Hampshire's MarcoPolo Field Trainers. These are often conducted more informally by a member of your own school faculty who has already attended a one-day training.
