STUDENT INPUT NEEDED

======================================

www.tomorrow.org/speakup

Students, Parents, Teachers & School Leaders Speak Up!
Open October 15thDecember 15th, 2007

Now in its 5th year, Speak Up is a national online survey where students, parents, teachers and school leaders can participate in the national, state and local dialog about key educational topics. Please encourage students in your district to participate!

It’s particularly important this year that we get as many New Hampshire students involved in this effort as possible. Our goal is to reach at least 1% of our state’s student enrollment (2,250 students) in order to receive a statewide report of the results. Such student participation can help us shape the next New Hampshire Statewide Educational Technology Plan.

This year’s survey topics include:

·      Learning and Teaching with Technology (including Web 2.0 in Education)

·      21st Century Skills and Workforce Preparedness

·      Science Instruction & Global Competitiveness

·      Emerging Technologies in the Classroom (Gaming ,Mobile Devices, Online learning)

·      Designing the Ultimate School of the Future

As of Nov 11th, 88 students from New Hampshire from 9 schools have participated in Speak Up 2007. Last year we only had 200 students participating. Participating schools and districts will receive free, online access to their results in Jan 2008. Since inception, the project has collected the viewpoints of over 850,000 K-12 students, teachers and parents from all 50 states.

DIGITAL TOOLS GRANTS

======================================

www.nheon.org/oet/nclb/PhaseIII

In a recently released report, Maximizing the Impact: "The Pivotal Role of Technology in a 21st Century Education System", the State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA), the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), and the Partnership for 21st Century Skills urged renewed emphasis on comprehensive use of technology in education.

According to the report, “to keep pace with a changing world, schools need to offer more rigorous, relevant and engaging opportunities for students to learn—and to apply their knowledge and skills in meaningful ways. Used comprehensively, technology supports new, research-based approaches and promising practices in teaching and learning.”

Application guidance was just posted for the next phase of the NCLB Title IID program. Digital Tools Grants can help maximize technology’s impact by responding to the need to support innovative teaching and learning in K-12 education. Visit www.nheon.org/oet/nclb/PhaseIII for the application guidance with all the details.
