$5,000 ED TECH MINI-GRANTS

======================================

http://madison.ncedservices.org/mini/concord_reg.asp

The Local Educational Support Center Network (www.nheon.org/centers) is sponsoring another round of technology integration mini-grants to support technology integration projects. Approximately 23 mini-grants will be awarded to school teams through a statewide competition. Two overview sessions will be held on Friday, October 20th at the NH Department of Education in Room 15. It is mandatory that at least one team member from each applying team attend one of the training sessions.

More details about the mini-grants application process will be posted online soon and disseminated through LESCN newsletters and the NHDOE ETNews (www.nheon.org/oet/etnews). A rubric used to review mini-grant proposals will include a point scale for high need districts, since federal program guidelines require that high need school districts (based on federal census data of highest poverty percentages) be given priority in funding. However, teams from all districts are invited to apply.

Potential teams must register one team participant to attend the overview session. Please complete the online registration form by October 18, 2006 by visiting: http://madison.ncedservices.org/mini/concord_reg.asp. Questions about the Mini-Grants or how to apply should be sent to Matt Treamer at matt@ncedservices.org.

FREE ONLINE EVENT

WestEd's SchoolsMovingUp Web site will feature another FREE Online Event, "Using Flexible Technology to Meet the Needs of Diverse Learners," on Wednesday, October 11 from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Making the general curriculum accessible to all students is an important aspect of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). During this interactive presentation Julie Duffield, Research Associate at WestEd, and Lisa Wahl, education and assistive technology consultant, will introduce a Web site, Technology to Support Diverse Learners, to show how some existing technology resources already available at most schools — talking text, Web resources, graphic organizers, and word processors — can be used to help give students access to the curriculum as well as to help differentiate instruction. The presentation will include examples from schools and districts using standard technology to tailor instruction for diverse students.

See the Online Events page on SchoolsMovingUp for further information, including specific topics to be addressed by this event, at http://www.schoolsmovingup.net/onlineevents.

LOTI  for NH SCHOOLS

======================================

http://www.loticonnection.com/newhampshireStart.html

NHDOE and the Local Educational Support Center Network (LESCN) are working collaboratively to continue to offer the LoTi Survey, the LoTi school and district reports, and access to certified LoTi mentor trainers in New Hampshire. While the LoTi survey itself is now offered free nationwide, the NH school and district reports do have a small cost associated with them. These reports are now provided through NCLB Title II-D Grants to the Center Network. Please contact a local center if you’d like to arrange for further technology implementation training.

What is LoTi? “LoTi is a term referring to Dr. Chris Moersch's Level of Technology Implementation Framework designed to accurately measure authentic classroom technology use. The LoTi Framework focuses on the use of technology as a tool within the context of student based instruction with a constant emphasis on higher order thinking. While technology is an important tool in engaging today's students and preparing them for the future, the LoTi Project recognizes that technology is not the best tool for every lesson. That is why the the LoTi Framework focuses on the instruction that is occurring in the classroom first and the technology tools being used second. Research has shown that classrooms that engage students in making decisions about their learning process and that utilize higher order thinking skills are most likely to prepare students for their future.”

Visit http://www.loticonnection.com/newhampshireStart.html for lots more details about LoTi and how to login either as a NEW or RETURNING user to the LoTi Lounge. Visitors will note that the LoTi Lounge now offers LoTi-aligned recommendations, lesson plans, and web links customized to your Grade Level and Subject Area. If you have not visited the LoTi Lounge since November 1, 2004, you will be prompted to enter your Grade Level and Subject area after you enter your User ID and Password to continue.
