LESCN Sites to host ICT Literacy Sessions
All of the New Hampshire School Minimum Standards were updated and became effective July 1, 2005, including the ICT Literacy Standards (formerly Computer Literacy). The ideal ICT Literacy Program weaves technology experiences into all content areas and all grade levels and supports students in building digital portfolios of their work. Join us at this first in a series of periodic work sessions to be offered at the Local Educational Support Centers to create a consensus of thought and action around the new ICT Literacy Standards. Cathy Higgins, Educational Technology Consultant at the NH Department of Education, will lead a discussion and exploration of ways to adapt your current school program to the new standards. Ideas for creating common ICT assessment rubrics will also be discussed. (View the standards at http://www.nheon.org/oet/standards/ICTLiteracy.htm.) Tech Coordinators, library media specialists, computer teachers, curriculum coordinators, teachers, and administrators are encouraged to attend.

The Astronauts Memorial Foundation (AMF) in partnership with the Space Foundation and NASA is currently accepting applications for the 2006 Alan Shepard Technology in Education Award.
In a continuing effort to recognize outstanding contributions by K-12 educators and district level personnel in the field of educational technology, the Alan Shepard Technology in Education Award was created in 2001. The purpose of this Award is to acknowledge individual contributions and exceptional accomplishments in technology use. The Award is open to all K-12 district or school level educators from across the nation. The Award will be presented by AMF, the Space Foundation and NASA at the 22nd National Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado in April 2006.

====================================== TECHNOLOGY IMPACT in EDUCATION MONTH ====================================== January is Technology Impact in Education Month! Visit the website for lesson plans, activities and supporting materials to help you and your students take a journey through time that examines the impact of technology in our schools. This is a month long discovery, sharing and celebration of the potential, both realized and envisioned, that educational technologies bring to the teaching and learning environment helping students achieve. We hope that students, teachers and parents will realize the importance of technology today and its growing impact on students entering the 21st century workforce as well as the obvious possibilities if our nation develops a technology literate society. Technology Impact in Education Month can be a short exercise or a more comprehensive process of self exploration throughout the course of a few weeks or the entire month of January 2006. Prizes will be awarded randomly to participants who submit their results on or before January 31, 2006. The State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) is the organization hosting Technology Impact in Education Month. SETDA is the principal association for state directors of technology and their staff members.

====================================== NCLB TITLE II-D DEADLINE ======================================
The deadline for submitting NCLB Title II-D applications for Round 4 (that would be fore 2005-06 funds) was December 31st. To date I have received most but not all district applications. If you have not sent your application, please contact me regarding your eligibility to still apply.
If you sent your application and want to know the status of its approval, I will be posting a status list next week and then periodically updating it as I work through the stack of applications as quickly as humanly possible. J

The District and School Technology Surveys were released this week, with a notice sent specifically to each tech coordinator and/or project manager of record. Tech coordinators, please use the Word document on the website to gather your data but please complete the final survey online on Survey Monkey. Do not try to send me the Word version of the surveys via email because I’ll just have to send you an email back asking you to fill it out online. J If you haven’t received your email with the login and password, send me an email to request a resend.
Thank you to everyone who is gathering data and doing the online survey. Your data is very important to all of us, since it gives us a statewide picture of how New Hampshire is doing with technology in education.
