NHDOE Sponsored E-Rate Workshops

======================================

http://www.nheon.org/oet/erate/training2005.htm

The New Hampshire Department of Education and the Local Educational Support Center Network are co-sponsoring E-Rate Training Sessions on:

Monday, 11/7/05 in Gorham at the North Country Technology and PD Center

Thursday, 11/9/05 in Penacook at the Capital Area Center for Education Support

Tuesday, 12/6/05 in Manchester at the Greater Manchester PD Center

Friday, 12/9/05 in Keene at the Southwestern NH Education Support Center

These are hands-on sessions with an E-Rate consultant, Jill Leavenworth, who will help you start using the online forms, e-rate management tools, and help you understand current changes in the E-Rate program. Bring your E-Rate forms and questions. These sessions are designed around participants’ needs – whether you are new to the Universal Services Program (E-Rate) or whether you’ve done E-Rate applications before and have in-depth questions about maximizing the opportunities of the program for your district.

Visit the website above for registration information. All sessions run from 9AM to 1PM with lunch included. There is no cost to attend, but you should contact your center to reserve your seat.

APPLY NOW for NCLB TITLE II-D GRANTS

======================================

www.nheon.org/oet/nclb

The 4th Round of formula funding for districts for NCLB Title IID is still open. Districts must apply for these funds by 12/31/05. Visit the website above for the FINAL ALLOCATIONS in the application guidance document and for the application form.

PLEASE NOTE that the end date for the project period on 4th round funds has been revised. These funds are available now, so you should not delay in applying for them. Your project period for spending 2005-06 funds (4th round) will run through December 31st of next year.

Districts which are currently spending their 3rd round (2004-05) of Title IID funds should not delay in spending, as we are finding too much of the funding is having to be carried forward. Please do not wait until the end of June 2006 to spend the remainder of your 2004-05 funds. Please spend your money now! J

School District Technology Plan Approval in NH

======================================

When you apply for E-Rate Discounts, if you request more than basic telephone service (e.g., local, cellular, and long distance telephone service) and/or voice mail, FCC rules require you to have an approved technology plan. For example, if you request discounts for a PBX system or a T-1 line, Internet access, or internal connections, you must have a plan that has been approved by the New Hampshire Department of Education. A technology plan should cover the entire funding year (July 1 to June 30) but not more than three years.

The technology plan must:

·         be written before you submit the Description of Services Requested and Certification Form (Form 470);

·         cover the entire period of discounted services that you request; and

·         be approved before you file the Receipt of Service Confirmation Form (Form 486) or before discounted services begin, whichever is earlier.

Visit the New Hampshire Tech Planning Guide for more guidance on revising your existing plan or writing a new one. To check the status of your district tech plan approval, visit the tech plan approval page at http://www.nheon.org/oet/erate/TPStatus.htm. When your plan is approved, this list will display the plan’s new expiration date.

There is currently a backlog of technology plans awaiting approval at the NHDOE. All plans currently under review are expected to be completed during the week of November 14th. If your plan is among them, you can expect to hear from the NHDOE by November 20th.

ANNUAL SCHOOL TECH SURVEY

======================================

http://www.nheon.org/oet/survey

Many of you have asked about district vs. school surveys and have been anxiously awaiting the new survey (or maybe not so anxiously) which was originally scheduled to open on 11/1/05. Starting this year, the annual school tech survey will be split into two surveys – a district survey and a school survey. We are currently finalizing the surveys and as soon as they have been tested, we’ll let you know. The link will be posted to the above web page. We’ll also send an email reminder to tech coordinators. We hope to have the surveys ready next week.

QED SURVEY of TEACHER USE of TECHNOLOGY

======================================

http://newsroom.cdwg.com/features/feature-08-29-05.htm

CDW-G conducts an annual survey of technology in K-12 schools. The 2005 Teachers Talk Tech survey was conducted by Quality Education Data (QED), using a sample of 1,000 randomly selected K-12 public school teachers throughout the nation in March and April 2005. Teachers were queried on a number of technology uses to determine how K-12 teachers utilize computer technology, and evaluate technology’s role and efficacy in education.

Take a guess: What percentage of teachers said they have the right balance of computers to students in their classrooms? Look up the answer at the website above.

Cathy Higgins
