NHSTE Super Thursdays in March

 

The following three workshops are offered after-school from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. A workshop registration form and further workshop descriptions are available on the NHSTE website at www.nhste.org.

NEIRTEC Upcoming Course

 

*** Designing for Technology Integration ***

This is an innovative seven-week course combining online learning with a two-day face-to-face institute. The first week of the course starts March 27 and the last week of the course ends on May 14.  A two-day face-to-face Institute (part of the course) will take place on April 4 and 5 in Springfield, MA. NEIRTEC is the Regional Technology in Education Consortium for the Northeast and serves the six New England States, New York, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. NEIRTEC is seeking individuals who have a leadership role (administrator or teacher-leader) and knowledge of curriculum. Participants must participate in all online and face-to-face activities. Small teams of leaders (2 – 4) are encouraged to attend. Registration is $200/person. This fee includes all course materials, continental breakfast and lunch on both days of the face-to-face institute, and dinner the first evening of the institute. The cost of lodging and transportation is the responsibility of the participants or their districts.  Three graduate credits will be given for participation in the online course, the face-to-face institute, and completion of a unit of practice.  The cost of the graduate credit component is $135 and is in addition to the registration fee.  See the NEIRTEC site for more details and to register.

Inspiration Software's fourth annual Inspired Teacher Scholarships for Visual Learning are designed to encourage educators in their ongoing technology professional development. On March 29, 2002, Inspiration Software will grant 20 scholarships in the amount of $500 each to educators who champion visual learning and the meaningful use of technology in the classroom. Grant recipients are compensated for attendance at a technology conference, graduate course, or training event where visual learning is highlighted.  Deadline: March 1, 2002

 

 

Alan Shephard Technology in Education Award

Educators who demonstrate the effective use technology in the classroom are eligible to win a laptop computer through this brand-new program from the National Association of Education Technology Specialists (NAETS). The organization will grant its first annual Alan Shephard Technology in Education Award to an educator who has demonstrated innovation, commitment, and excellence in the teaching and development of technology programs in schools. This report from the National Academy calls for an infusion of technology integration into the K-12 curriculum. This two year study was conducted by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and the National Research Council. One point of agreement is that we need to broaden the definition of technology as “using computers.”
